On Tuesday (13th Feb, 2024), Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the commencement of his government’s “PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana,” which will give one crore homes 300 free units of power each month. For this project, the Centre would be investing ₹ 75,000 crore. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman initially revealed the plan when she read the “Interim Budget 2024 – 25.”
One crore families are expected to profit from the ₹75,000 crore rooftop solar project that the Union Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi agreed on Thursday. During the official release, Union Minister Anurag Thakur stated that the recipients of this scheme will receive 300 units of complimentary electricity.

How to Apply?

Step 1: Go to pmsuryaghar.gov.in to apply for the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
Step 2: To begin, one must register using the following information on the portal:
- Choose your state.
- Choose the firm that distributes your electricity.
- Enter the number of the electricity you consume.
- Put your mobile number.
- Put your email address.
Step 3: After completing the first step. The consumer’s number and cellphone number are required for login. After filling, submit your application using the form for rooftop solar.
Step 4: The customer will then need to wait for the approval of the feasibility. After the form is submitted, any vendor will come and install the plant.
Step 5: After installation, apply for a net meter and submit the plant specifications.
Step 6: Following the net meter installation and DISCOM inspection, the commissioning certificate will be generated via the portal.
Step 7: The commissioning report will be sent to the customer upon completion. All the candidates must use the portal to provide their bank account information and a voided cheque.
Step 8: Customers will receive the subsidy in 30 days.
